St Barnabas, Chappel

St Barnabas church, Chappel dates from 1285.  The welcoming church, lying close to the heart of the villages, was formerly a chapel to St Barnabas church, Great Tey. The homely and modest interior includes a gallery. Restoration in 1936 provided re-ordering of the chancel and exposure of the attractive C14 roof construction. There is an attractive white wooden tower and spire. The church, like All Saints, has a good entry in Pevsner’s Buildings of Essex. The windows have undergone recent restoration and a sound amplification system has recently been installed. The vestry has facilities for simple catering. Chappel CoE Primary School, situated close by, holds regular services at the church.
